Here's the ingredient list for the sugar cookie recipe that I grew up with (we used cookie cutters with it, including the 3-D ones you'd see in the 1980's): 3¾ cups sifted flour 1½ teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup butter or margarine 1½ cups sugar 2 teaspoons vanilla 2 eggs Source: SUGAR COOKIES, in The New Doubleday Cookbook, by Jean Anderson & Elaine Hanna, 1985, p. 837 Recipe ingredient lists aren't copyrightable (so, that's why I'm posting that here). Directions are copyrightable, however (at least, the specific wording is).
Bake 8 to 9 minutes on an upper part of the oven at 375° F. It talks of chilling the dough, optionally painting with milk and sprinkling sugar, and such, but I don't know that we did any of that (or even used the top part of the oven). I didn't make this recipe a lot, though; other family members did, mostly. [HASH]recipe [HASH]sugarcookie [HASH]cookie
