You may wonder why I have so many boards (especially plant boards) when I can just have one board and let people use hashtags to classify things. There are several reasons:
• To remind you that these topics exist, and discussion about them is very much on-topic
• To allow us a way to see how plants are related (especially edible plants and herbs)
• To allow more options (because I'm not sure that there's a way to follow a hashtag and suchlike)
• If we get a whole lot of members some day, it'll be nice to have separate and independent discussions without people who don't care about the topics we post getting in our way.
• Different boards can have different moderators. I may not want the same people moderating each topic. If I see that you know a lot about watermelons (and that you understand how the forum is supposed to work), I might make you a Watermelon moderator—but that doesn't mean I want you to moderate discussion about bananas by default. You may not understand how to moderate discussion about bananas properly, if you know nothing about bananas. True, many moderation skills are cross-topic, but I want my moderators to understand what they're moderating, where possible.
• I want to attract like-minded people. I like lots of forums—so, there you go.
• There are already loads of websites that don't do this. It's kind of a niche thing.
• I already added lots of boards before I added the plugin for hashtag functionality.
• I want to limit the amount of hashtags required.
• If people want to do so, they can still use hashtags in the General Discussion board and act like the other boards don't exist. Their existence does not limit what you can do.

• I want to encourage a culture wherein a large percentage of the threads do not require comment (whether or not people do comment). This is because it ensures that the threads are useful even if no one comments. With loads of boards on a new forum you can't expect a thriving metropolis of citizens to reply to your every need.
