- Black Mesquite (Prosopis nigra—algarrobo negro; tr. black carob tree; also see Mesquite generally, although it's not supposed to taste like carob)
- Cacao (chocolate comes from cacao, and carob is often used as a chocolate substitute; IMO, if you want caob to taste like chocolate, you can mix lots of it with vanilla ice cream—I haven't found any other way; cacao is not closely related to carob, but rather than being a legume, cacao is in the Mallow family)
