You are encouraged to use the new site for seed trading. However, if you wish to do it here instead, use the following rules:
Members who have previously made at least two legitimate (and non-spammy) posts may, at their own risk, trade, offer (for free or sale), accept/receive, or buy seeds, plants, food or potentially other goods or services (only where legal and only where you accept the entire responsibility for your actions and hold harmless this forum and its members) anywhere on this forum's boards wherein the posts are on-topic. For instance, you may trade tomato seeds on the Tomato board. Note that seeds/plants with utility patents are not okay to trade, sell or give away (nor are things cross-pollinated with them, nor their descendants): e.g. the Kumato tomato and the Flavr Savr tomato (in fact, it's illegal to even grow those yourself). Also note that it's illegal to trade or give away PVP seeds (such as the Indigo Rose tomato and the Black Pearl F1 pepper)*, but if you happen to have PVP seeds, you can grow them and save seeds for yourself (and, depending on where you live, you can use them in breeding programs in certain ways, and PVP expires in the F2 generation, normally). Most genetically engineered plants have utility patents (please don't grow, sell, trade, or give away seeds or plants from grocery store produce, nor their descendants, unless you have verified that they are not covered by a utility patent or such). Not only is it illegal, but it's unethical to give people illegal stuff that they don't know is illegal, causing them to break the law ignorantly.
Please use hashtags from among the following in your trade or offer (these tags are not exclusive to seeds or plants, but those are the primarily anticipated topics; please see the associated boards for their descriptions):
• [HASH]wanttrade—puts your post or comment on the #wanttrade board.
• [HASH]wantfree—puts your post or comment on the #wantfree board.
• [HASH]wantsale—puts your post or comment on the #wantsale board.
• [HASH]wantother—puts your post or comment on the #wantother board.
• [HASH]offertrade—puts your post or comment on the #offertrade board.
• [HASH]offerfree—puts your post or comment on the #offerfree board.
• [HASH]offersale—puts your post or comment on the #offersale board.
• [HASH]offerother—puts your post or comment on the #offerother board.
#want hashtags are for those things you want (and/or want to know about), and #offer hashtags are for things you or others are offering others.
Examples of usage:
• If you post about how you want to trade Rutgers tomato seeds for something else, use #offertrade.
• If you post about how you are giving away Rutgers tomato seeds for free, use #offerfree.
• If you post about how you are offering Rutgers tomato seeds for sale and are seeking for someone to buy them, use #offersale.
• If you post about how you are offering free Rutgers tomato seeds on condition that the recipient takes pictures of the resulting plants and documents how they do throughout the season, use #offerother.
• If you post about how you want Rutgers tomato seeds and are willing to trade for them, use #wanttrade.
• If you post about how you want Rutgers tomato seeds for free, use #wantfree.
• If you post about how you're looking for someone to buy Rutgers tomato seeds from, use #wantsale.
• If you post about how you want someone to give you Rugters tomato seeds with the condition that at the end of the season you send them Rutgers tomato seeds you save from your harvest, use #wantother.
Please only trade within your own country, unless you know for sure that it is legal for both you and the other person to do otherwise.
Please also note that if you are selling stuff, there are probably plenty of laws you have to comply with to do it legally (i.e. tax laws, labeling laws, seed count, germination testing, and so on). This site disclaims all liability for any products that its members sell, trade, give away, or otherwise offer. This site is not responsible to ensure that people follow through with their trades or offers; take them at your own risk (and preferably use a P.O. box). Users should not be treated as if they are affiliated with the site in any way. This site does not regulate sales (although it may remove posts from time to time).
To the extent possible, members are responsible for ensuring that their own activity here is legal.
*If you want non-PVP alternatives to Indigo Rose and Black Pearl F1 try Black Beauty, Fahrenheit Blues, Black Hungarian and such.
Tradelists:
In your profile, you may include a link to each of your tradelists (your wantlist and havelist). If your tradelist isn't on another website, you can make a post here somewhere (with the appropriate hashtags) and link to that post from your profile. A good place to post your tradelist is on the Introduce Yourself board (but if it pertains to certain boards, you can post there instead: e.g. Vegetable and Herb, Ornamental and Houseplant, Tomato, etc.) Please use appropriate hashtags on your current tradelists (if they're not on an external website):
• [HASH]havelist—puts your post or comment on the #havelist board. This indicates that your post contains your official havelist. If your havelist changes, you are encouraged to edit this post rather than to post the update in a new thread. Alternatively, if you want to keep the old thread as is and make a new one, then please remove this hashtag from the old thread.
• [HASH]wantlist—puts your post or comment on the #wantlist board. This indicates that your post contains your official wantlist. If your wantlist changes, you are encouraged to edit this post rather than to post the update in a new thread. Alternatively, if you want to keep the old thread as is and make a new one, then please remove this hashtag from the old thread.
Questions and Answers:
Q: What's the difference between #havelist and such as #offertrade? Same question for #wantlist and such as #wanttrade.
A: #havelist is for everything you have that you could possibly want to trade, give away or sell. The existence of your havelist does not imply that you're soliciting a specific offer (it just lets people know what you have should you negotiate an offer). A havelist is useful to give to others to peruse to see what they're interested in. In the same vein, #wantlist is for everything you could possibly want to obtain by trading, receiving free offers, or buying. A wantlist is useful to give to others to peruse so they can see if they have any of those items that you want (so you can negotiate more easily). #offertrade and #wanttrade are for specific things or specific groups of things that do not comprise your entire tradelist (and they are active solicitations).
