Here is a selection of websites and resources that I’ve personally found useful in finding free e-books and audiobooks (note that some free books offered at some of these sites may not be family-friendly):
• Project Gutenberg: www.gutenberg.org/ (large selection of primarily [HASH]public_domain e-books, in various formats)
• LibriVox: librivox.org/ (large selection of public domain, volunteer-read, human-read audiobooks)
• The Internet Archive: archive.org/details/texts (large selection of scanned public domain books, among other things)
• Google Books: books.google.com/advanced_book_search (large selection of scanned public domain books, among other things)
• Amazon’s top 100 free e-books: www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kindle-Store-Childrens-eBooks/zgbs/digital-text/155009011/ref=zg_bs?_encoding=UTF8&tf=1 (this has a large selection of free, copyrighted books; you do have to ‘buy’ them, and so you need a credit card, but the cost is $0.00; be careful, though, since the prices may change while you’re looking at them; sometimes you get well-known books that normally cost money, too; make sure top 100 free is checked, and make sure it says it's free, even without Kindle unlimited; I put it on the Children's books, since they're more often wholesome than many genres, but you can navigate through the other genres on the left side)
• Amazon’s free Christian fiction: www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Kindle-Store-Christian-Fiction/zgbs/digital-text/6190467011/ref=zg_bs?_encoding=UTF8&tf=1 (just a quick link to it, since it takes a lot of steps to find; make sure top 100 free is checked, and make sure it says it's free, even without Kindle unlimited)
• Hathi Trust Digital Library: catalog.hathitrust.org/Search/Home?type=author&inst= (has a good selection of scanned public domain books, among potentially other things)
• manybooks.net/ (Similar to Gutenberg, but smaller, and somewhat different selection)
• The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints: www.lds.org/study/lib?lang=eng (you can get free e-books and audiobooks for scriptures, Church magazines, Church manuals, and many other publications; there is quite a selection; also see the Gospel Library app for mobile devices for another nice way to access e-books and audiobooks)
• www.lds.org/media-library/ebooks?lang=eng (another place to find e-books on the Church’s website)
• Project Gutenberg: www.gutenberg.org/ (large selection of primarily [HASH]public_domain e-books, in various formats)

• If you have an Android or Kindle Fire device with the Amazon appstore, then you can get a number of free and interactive childrens books from it.
• Online libraries that your local libraries let you use (I've used at least one of these for audiobooks; you don't get to keep these forever, but they're free for a while).
