Here's a ginger bread cookie recipe we used to make when I was younger. You can use cookie cutters with the dough. 2½ cups sifted flour ½ teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons ginger ½ cup butter or margarine ½ cup sugar ½ cup molasses ½ teaspoon baking soda ¼ cup hot water Source: GINGER BREAD BOYS, from The New Doubleday Cookbook, by Jean Anderson & Elaine Hanna, 1985, p. 839 (the original recipe that I used was in an earlier version of the book, which was from one of the two volumes—but I think the recipe is the same; this new version is both volumes in one book) Anyway, I understand that recipe ingredient lists aren't copyrightable; so, that's why I'm posting it here. I do highly recommend the cookbook, too, personally. The recipe also has icing ingredients and directions. I'm not sure if we ever iced ours, though (unless just the borders of the cookies or something). It also mentions pressing cinnamon candies on them (I seem to remember cookies like that whether or not they were these ones that we made), and raisins (sounds familiar). Bake for 10 to 12 minutes on 350° F. The recipe has some complex instructions, which you may or may not want to locate and follow.
