Our tomatoes are tasting surprisingly sweet and/or sour, this year, grown with black plastic and very little water. I imagine they'll be great for canning.
The flavor seems to have improved considerably by today over the last several times I tried the tomatoes, but they were sweet and sour before this point. Temperatures are still about 100° F. every day for the daily high.
The Galapagos Island cross tomatoes practically tasted like blackberries (with a little tomato flavor), as did Mountain Princess and New Yorker V.

It's not just our tomatoes, apparently. Our unripe melons are sweet, too! I've been harvesting the ones that haven't been pollinated fully and eating them like cucumbers. You know, the melon fruits shaped like the lower half of a wasp.

I think muskmelons are probably fine, though. These are just my opinions (except it should be noted that Armenian cucumbers are muskmelons that are harvested before they're ripe).
