Here's one of my favorite oatmeal cookie recipes from when I was a child (I made them a lot as a teenager): 3½ dozen 1 cup sifted flour 2 teaspoons baking powder ½ teaspoon salt ½ cup butter or margarine, softened to room temperature 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar 1½ cups uncooked quick-cooking oatmeal 2 eggs, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 cup chopped pitted dates or seedless raisins Source: DROPPED OATMEAL CHIPPIES, from The New Doubleday Cookbook, by Jean Anderson & Elaine Hanna, 1985, p. 833 (the original recipe that I used was in an earlier version of the book, which was from one of the two volumes—but I think the recipe is the same; this new version is both volumes in one book) Note that I've never tried it with dates (just raisins). Anyway, I understand that recipe ingredient lists aren't copyrightable; so, that's why I'm posting it here. I do highly recommend the cookbook, too, personally. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes at 350° F.
