So, I just cut off the foliage of my fennel plant(s) to eat it and let it grow back. I ate it, raw (along with some raw [HASH]kolrahbi greens and flower shoots). Then I looked in the mirror at my tongue, and it was bright red, just like I had just drank a bunch of red Koolaid!
The plant was quite green; so, I'm not sure where the bright red tongue came from! My tongue is still quite red as I speak. My cheeks, inside my mouth, are red, too. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it's just some coloring property of the fennel (not an allergy or anything; I feel fine and so does my tongue; it's probably too bright of a color for an allergy).
Yes, much of the fennel that I ate was fibrous. I chewed it up for a while, sucking out the juice until I spit out the (green) fiber.
